Reflections on the Duke Program

What were you looking for in a residency program?
A combination of clinical excellence and rigorous training as well as a collegial and collaborative culture.

What are the strengths of the Duke Program?
I feel very supported in the program by my colleagues at every level: my co-residents, upper level residents, chief residents, faculty, and program leadership. I feel that the program leadership cares about our well-being and our lives outside of medicine.

Tell us about your co-residents. What has helped you connect, support each other, and form friendships?
Immediately after Match Day, my co-interns started a group chat with our entire intern class. People will post in it to set up social events for anyone who is available. I like that with the 4+2 schedule, our class is split into thirds so that we are always on ambulatory with the same group of people, which helps us get to know each other. Within that, there's a group of people who are always at my primary care clinic with me at the same time. It feels like a home base to come back to and I know that I have familiar friendly faces there to help each other through.

What are your interests outside of medicine?
Backpacking, running, trying new breweries, hanging out with my dog
