What were you looking for in a residency program?
I was looking for a location that I love and rigorous clinical training.
What are the strengths of the Duke Program?
The people! Everyone is excited to teach and learn which creates a fun and collegial learning environment.
What are your observations about the relationships between faculty and house staff?
The relationships between faculty and house staff are like those of peers and colleagues without a hierarchical feel. The faculty are encouraging and supportive, yet allow for resident independence.
Tell us about your co-residents. What has helped you connect, support each other, and form friendships?
COVID created a challenging time to connect with co-residents, but we've done our best to see each other at work, text each other for support, and see each other for socially-distanced gatherings.

What is the best thing about living in Durham and the Triangle?
I LOVE Durham! I'm from here and one of the main reasons I chose Duke was to be in Durham. I've lived in several different cities in the U.S. and abroad but there is no place I'd rather be. The best thing about Durham is the incredible shared sense of community even with incredible diversity. The second best thing about Durham is the food!
How does the Triangle appeal to people of diverse backgrounds?
There is an incredible amount of diversity in Durham. Other places can boast the same diversity in terms of numbers but what impresses me about Durham is the integration and interaction of different communities with one another.
Where did you choose to live and why?
Downtown because it is close to lots of restaurants and bars.
What advice would you give to someone looking to move to Durham?
Figure out what is important to you and go from there - Durham has a lot to offer!

Sports, cooking, eating, and reading
