Reflections on the Duke Program

What were you looking for in a residency program?
I was looking for a strong community, rigorous curriculum, and program leadership who love what they do.

What are the strengths of the Duke Program?
Duke is strong community, with a rigorous curriculum, and program leadership who love what they do.

What are your observations about the relationships between faculty and house staff?
Faculty care about high quality patient care, modeling best practices in medicine, and supporting house staff learning.

Tell us about your co-residents. What has helped you connect, support each other, and form friendships?
My co-residents are amazing! They all have such unique backgrounds, accomplishments, and interests. I learn something new form each of them every day.

What has surprised you most about Duke?
I was most surprised about how warm and welcoming the community is here.

About Life in Durham

What is the best thing about living in Durham and the Triangle?
The best thing about living in Durham is that it's so beautiful!

Where did you choose to live and why?
I chose to live in a house that I rent in north east Durham, because I wanted a yard with a fence.

What advice would you give to someone looking to move to Durham?
You have to send out a lot of applications. Houses go fast and you'll likely sign on a rental the day you put in the application. Use websites that allow you to pay one fee to apply to multiple properties.

What are your interests outside of medicine?
I do wheel thrown pottery, enjoy running, and exploring a new hiking trail.
