Reflections on the Duke Program

What were you looking for in a residency program?
I was looking for a rigorous program with excellent clinical training, exciting research opportunities, and situated in a dynamic and diverse community. But most importantly, I was looking for a warm and supportive program that felt like family from the start.

What are the strengths of the Duke Program?
By far the biggest strength of the program is the #DukeFam

What are your observations about the relationships between faculty and house staff?
Informal, collaborative, and supportive

Tell us about your co-residents. What has helped you connect, support each other, and form friendships?
Top flight, first class consortium of weirdos, nerds, and characters who love to learn, care for patients, and have fun.

What has surprised you most about Duke?
The incredible sense of community and support

About Duke University and Durham

What is the best thing about living in Durham and the Triangle?
Pincho Loco. Best ice cream in Durham!

How does the Triangle appeal to people of diverse backgrounds?
A phenomenal array of restaurants, hiking trails, sporting events, and performance venues

Where did you choose to live and why?
I wanted to live nearby, walking distance to the medical center to force myself to get exercise and fresh air

What advice would you give to someone looking to move to Durham?
Bring a car, rain coat, and big appetite

What are your interests outside of medicine?
Cooking, gardening, watching sports and movies
