Dr. Serena Wong Named Geriatrics Fellowship Program Director

Dr. Serena Wong, associate professor of Medicine, has been selected to become the Duke Geriatrics Fellowship Program Director, beginning on November, 1, 2025.

Dr. Wong is exceptionally qualified to serve in this role, bringing a wealth of experience in clinical education, leadership, and program development, said Cathleen Colón-Emeric, MD, MHS, Chief of the Division of Geriatrics and Palliative Care.

An alumna of both the Duke Geriatric Medicine Fellowship and the Advanced Fellowship in Geriatrics at the Durham VA, Dr. Wong has remained deeply engaged with the fellowship through clinical supervision, didactic teaching, and recruitment. She has completed prestigious educational leadership programs, including the Harvard Macy Program and the Duke AHEAD Certificate.

Dr. Wong has developed impactful curricula addressing common geriatric clinical problems such as Nourish to Flourish to improve nutrition for hospitalized older adults, which has been highly praised by fellows and interprofessional learners. As Medical Director of Geriatrics at Duke Regional Hospital, she led initiatives that significantly improved consult volume and implemented Age-Friendly Health System practices.

Her leadership training through national programs and her ongoing participation in the Tideswell Emerging Leaders in Aging program further underscore her readiness to guide the fellowship through a period of transition and growth. Dr. Wong’s collaborative spirit, problem-solving skills, and commitment to fellow wellness position her as an ideal candidate to lead and innovate within the program, Dr. Colón-Emeric added.
