Dr. Chris Jones, MD, MBA, HMDC, FAAHPM trained in Internal Medicine at Brown University and completed fellowships in
Hospice and Palliative Medicine and Geriatric Medicine at Duke University. He currently serves as the Clinical Vice Chief at Duke Palliative Care and is an Associate Professor of Medicine at Duke SOM. After four years as the Founding Editor of the journal Palliative Medicine Reports, in 2023 Dr. Jones became the third Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Palliative Medicine. He was elected to the AAHPM Board of Directors in 2024 and assists CAPC with its billing and coding resources. Dr. Jones also serves as Core Faculty at the Four Seasons Palliative Care Immersion Course, was named as AAHPM’s alternate subspecialty advisor to the AMA RUC, and offers consulting around billing, coding, and revenue enhancement through Lightning Bolt Partners, LLC. His wife Jenn is a Cancer Center Triage Nurse at Duke and his kids, Will (10) and Cameron (5), really like time at the beach and Chris’s chicken piccata recipe!
Career interests: Business of medicine in PC and hospice; mentorship of junior faculty; leadership
What are you working on now? Internally facing: Growing outpatient PC at Duke; supporting the current team and knocking down barriers; improving our billing by empowering providers to show how sick our patients are; Externally I have lots of interests – Editor of JPM, AAHPM RUC representative, CAPC faculty.
Career Goals: Who could ever know. My wife hopes I figure it out before retirement!
