What brought you to Duke?

I came to Duke for my Internal Medicine Residency. I received great training and love Durham, so the decision to stay was easy.

Improving hospital processes, from error reduction, reduced length of stay, patient satisfaction, improved patient treatment for alcohol use disorder, and resident education.

How did you get into this specific field?

I loved all of medicine and so thought hospital medicine was the way to go!

What are your hobbies or interests outside of work?

Running. Trail running and hiking. I have a wife and son who love to run, so it is family thing. I personally find running and the time in nature to be recharging.

Any recent books you've read that you would like to share?

Undoing Project by Michael Lewis. I liked the book because it describes how EBM was started (somewhat), and behavioral economics started.

And Running with the Buffaloes, because of my love for running.

What is a fun fact about yourself?

I claim to be from Texas but have been in NC since 2004. I have lived in Alaska and Colorado. When I was a kid, I went to three different kindergartens. Being in a military family we had to move around a lot.

What is your favorite food?

I would have to say french fries or breakfast burritos.

What is your favorite restaurant?

My favorite local restaurant would have to be Harvest 18 by Southpoint mall in Durham.

Is there anything else you would like to share?

I’m the son of an Air Force veteran, thus the desire to serve our veterans.
