Remembering Kevin B. Waters, MD

Kevin B. Waters, MD, assistant professor of medicine in the Division of General Internal Medicine and longtime director of Duke Executive Health, passed away on August 3, 2026.

Dr. Waters joined Duke Executive Health in 1999 and served as its director since 2000. During his tenure, he helped build and lead a nationally recognized program focused on preventative care, comprehensive health assessments, and risk factor management. He was dedicated to helping patients better understand their health and develop personalized strategies for lifelong wellness.

His healthcare career began as a medic in the U.S. Air Force. He later trained as a physician assistant at Baylor College of Medicine before earning his medical degree from the University of New Mexico School of Medicine in 1984. He completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at Duke University Medical Center, where he received a Golden Apple Award for excellence in teaching.

A board-certified internist, Dr. Waters devoted more than four decades to patient care, medical education, and physician leadership. His contributions to Duke Health and preventive medicine have left a lasting impact on the institution and the many patients he served.

We extend our sincere condolences to Dr. Waters’ family, friends, and colleagues. A celebration of his life will be held this fall. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Dr. Waters by spending time with those you love.
