Lana Wahid, MD, along with research analysts John Stover, MSN, and Earl Schwark III, were invited to guest speak at EPIC’s XGM Conference 2023 on May 09, 2023 in Verona, Wisconsin. This annual conference is focused on advancing the science of software build, training, performance, and workflow.

Historically, Duke's inpatient research has not had a dedicated custom build in Epic. Dr. Wahid presented how their unique collaboration led to creative innovative ideas for inpatient clinical trials. Wahid worked with John and Earl to develop custom Epic builds for the screening of hospitalized patients and the development of a safety monitoring dashboard for all inpatient clinical trials. The two custom Epic builds resulted in improved efficiency, cost savings of $250,000 annually in research coordinator efforts, and Duke being recognized as a top enrolling site for various multi-center, multi-national clinical trials.

The customized screening report and safety monitoring dashboard have been recognized as best research practices by Duke. In addition to Epic, Dr. Wahid was invited as a guest speaker to several hospitals nationally including New York University, WakeMed, University of Illinois-Chicago, and Hackensack School of Medicine to share her work.

Dr. Lana Wahid is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of General Internal Medicine (GIM)
John Stover, MSN, and Earl Schwark III are both IT research analysts for the Duke Office of Clinical Research (DOCR)
