How to Apply

Note to applicants:  In alignment with the Association of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Program Directors (APCCMPD), our national professional society, and to ensure a uniform interview process that is equitable to all applicants, our fellowship interviews will be held exclusively virtually. We will not offer in-person interviews. The full recommendation is available here.

All applicants interested in training at Duke University in our Critical Care Medicine will be considered without regard to race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, or national origin. We are committed to a holistic and equitable review of all complete applications we receive.

Applicants must be completing or have completed a minimum 2 years of an ABIM subspecialty fellowship (e.g. cardiology, nephrology, advanced general medicine) and be ABIM board-eligible or board-certified at the time of matriculation. We will not consider applicants who are not currently in or do not already have subspecialty training.

Our programs only accept applications through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) system.

Critical Care Medicine Interview dates:

Our programs participate in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) Medicine and Pediatrics Specialties Match.

Applications must include:

  • ERAS common application form
  • Secondary application form - Link provided via email after preliminary ERAS application review. This must be completed by August 2nd, 2024 to be eligible for an interview.
  • Three letters of recommendation - One letter must be from the applicant's most recent training program director (residency or fellowship).
  • USMLE Examination Transcript
  • Personal statement
  • Research background/publications submitted via ERAS application
