At this point in my life I no longer do bench research but am involved in clinical practice and am also a member of the Duke Center for Integrative Medicine. A main focus of interest for me is what some anthropologists call the “integrative mode of consciousness”, which includes among other things meditation and diverse contemplative religious practices. Specifically, I propose that by engaging in such practices while maintaining great respect for science, health care providers can enhance their effectiveness.
