Internal Medicine Residency News, May 9th 2022

From the Director

It’s been another busy week.  Please be on the lookout for the information regarding check out from Tia (SARs) as well as your new contracts for next year (interns and JARs).  New contracts show up in medhub to be signed.  For SARs, its time to start making sure you are clear on VA alerts and any inbasket messages.

This weekend is the rescheduled for weather SAR/Prostate Bowl on May 15th at Forest Hills Park.  We also have two Duke IM Res alumni giving SEEDS fellows noon conferences (we see you Steph Garbarino and Neha Kayastha) and a stump the professor Duke LEADs with guest discussants Drs. Susanna Naggie, Jason Stout and Joseph Govert.

Kudos

Kudos this week to Nicole Dussault from Harsh Patolia for excellent family communication on VA GM and right back to Harsh from Nicole for his fantastic leadership (and his excellent CAT from Priyanka Patel). Kudos to Kaela Miller from a patient for being very on top of all the details. Also kudos to my fantastic Duke GM team David Elliott, Lauren Pinion, Drew Vista, Katelyn Smith and Sara Barlow as well as Aaron Lindeke-Myers, Nish Shivakumar and Ben Redpath for leaving the team in fantastic shape and our medical students Hunter Aitcheson and Matthew Gayed – a true pleasure taking care of patients with you, to Ceshae Harding for an outstanding SAR talk, to Courtney Dominguez from Dr Liz Hankollari for expertise in running a code, and to Jon Kusner and Carter Devlin from Dr Kara Wegermann for their enthusiasm and excellent patient care on VA GM.

Congratulations to Kayla Humphreys and Daniel Travis on their wedding!!!

Feeling down? Need to talk to someone? Opportunities for Wellness
All trainees at Duke have FREE access to Personal Assistance Services (PAS), which is the faculty/employee assistance program of Duke University. The staff of licensed professionals offer confidential assessment, short-term counseling, and referrals to help resolve a range of personal, work, and family problems. PAS services are available free of charge to Duke faculty and staff, and their immediate family members. An appointment to meet with a PAS counselor may be arranged by calling the PAS office at 919-416-1PAS (919-416-1727), Monday through Friday between 8:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M. For assistance after hours, residents and fellows can call the Blood and Body Fluid Hotline (115 inside DUH, 919-684-1115 outside) for referral to behavioral health resources. Another resource is Duke Outpatient Psychiatry Referrals at (919) 684-0100 or 1-888-ASK-DUKE. https://www.hr.duke.edu/pas/
