10/19/13: SNMA Connects symposium honors two Duke SoM African-American leaders

As a part of Duke Medical Alumni Weekend, the School of Medicine will present a symposium on Sat., Oct. 19 from 1:30-4:30 p.m. in the Learning Hall of the Trent Semans Center. "SNMA Connects: Past, Present, and Future: Bridging Our Minority Students, Faculty, Residents and Alumni" is a symposium and student-led tour in honor of two of Duke University School of Medicine's African-American firsts: Onye E. Akwari, MD, Duke's first African-American professor of surgery (1978), and Charles Johnson, MD, Duke's first African-American fellow in endocrinology (1967) and faculty member (1970).
