2 GIM teams win poster awards from AAHPM

The Annual Assembly for the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine (AAHPM) was set to take place March 18-21 in San Diego. This meeting, like many others, was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic - but that didn't stop two teams in GIM from submitting posters that each won an award! Jared Lowe, MD, chief resident for Duke University Hospital in the Duke Internal Medicine Residency Program, was the first author on both posters.

In the section of Scientific and Quality Improvement Posters, Lowe won the Health Research category for his poster entitled "Implementation of an Electronic Medical Record Practice Alert to Identify Patients Eligible for Advance Care Planning for the Meta-LARC ACP Study", as well as the Population Research category for his poster entitled "Project PLACE: Perceptions of Palliative Care Across Diverse Communities".

According to AAHPM's tweet, "These awards recognize the best poster in each research topic category."

"Even if the event didn’t turn out the way we hoped, it’s great to be able to share this work and is a testament to how many great collaborators and mentors we have here at Duke, especially within GIM."

- Jared Lowe, MD
