The Duke Department of Medicine (DOM) joined thousands of excited residents across the country on Wednesday, December 4 for 2024 Fellowship Match Day. Many gathered in Duke North 2002 to celebrate where their educational journey will take them next.
“Our residents are incredible people and physicians, and learning where they will go to complete their medical training is really exciting,” said DOM Vice Chair of Education Lisa Criscione-Schreiber, MD, MHS. “We are so proud of their accomplishments today and always!”
Duke residents matched in 9 subspecialties with 14 who will remain at Duke, where they will continue to build their clinical, educational, and research skills in our divisions.
Resident Cayla Pichan matched in cardiology at the University of Texas Southwestern. "I'm so excited to meet my new co-fellows. I love the program, and I love the people there already, so I know that they're going to pick wonderful people. I can't wait to meet them and work with them."
Resident John DeMis is excited about staying at Duke, where he was accepted for a nephrology fellowship. "I am just really excited about drilling down and getting really good at taking care of patients in the field of nephrology," he said. "That's the one thing I’m really passionate about."
“Congratulations to all of our amazing residents who participated in the fellowship match!” said Aimee Zaas, MD, director, DOM Internal Medicine Residency Program. “Entering specialty fellowship is the culmination of many years of dedicated work by our residents. They are guided on this journey by outstanding mentors across all of the divisions in the Department of Medicine.”
