Barton F. Haynes, MD, the Frederic M. Hanes Professor of Medicine and Immunology, will receive the 2013 AAI-Steinman Award for Human Immunology Research by the American Association of Immunologists.
The award, which will be presented in May at the AAI annual meeting, recognizes “significant, sustained achievement in immunology research pertinent to human disease pathogenesis, prevention, or therapy.”
Dr. Haynes is director of the Duke Human Vaccine Institute. He leads the Center for HIV/AIDS Vaccine Immunology-Immunogen Discovery, which was recently awarded a $139-million, seven-year grant by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID).
