The Department of Medicine Book Club will host a discussion of What Patients Say, What Doctors Hear, by Danielle Ofri, MD, on Tuesday, June 19, 2018. All faculty and trainees in the Department are invited to participate, and the event will be open to other providers and students across the Duke University Medical Center.
Dr. Ofri is associate professor of medicine at the New York University School of Medicine and has cared for patients at New York's Bellevue Hospital for more than two decades. She has written other acclaimed books about the practice of medicine. What Patients Say was published in 2017. In it, Ofri reflects on the latest research studies about the connections between communication and health, interviews with scholars, doctors, patients, and hospital executives, and her own experience as a physician.
A small number of copies of the book are available from Laura Caputo, MD, assistant professor of medicine (General Internal Medicine) and coordinator of the book club.
