Bosworth, PhD, professor of medicine (General Internal Medicine) and Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, is the recipient of the 2013 VA Under Secretary's Award for Outstanding Achievement in Health Services Research. This award is the highest honor for a VA health services researcher. It represents exceptional achievement in improving our understanding of factors that affect the health and quality of care of Veterans, inspiring and training the next generation of health services researchers, and enhancing the visibility and recognition of VA research nationally. Dr. Bosworth has served as associate director of VA's Health Services Research and Development Service's Center for Health Services Research in Primary Care in Durham for 10 years, and for more than 15 years he has worked to develop and test novel interventions to improve health behaviors and outcomes for patients with chronic diseases. His main research interests comprise three inter-related areas that have significant implications for Veterans: self-management in chronic care; developing and using quality measurements to monitor and improve the processes and outcomes of healthcare; and translating research findings into clinical care.
