Talk Story: Voices of Medicine show rescheduled to Tues., March 12 at 8 p.m.[/box]
Love a good story?
Across the country, storytelling is more popular than ever: New York has
the Moth and
Story Collider (science stories!), Minnesota has
Prairie Home Companion and public radio has
This American Life.
Here in the Triangle,
the Monti sells out its live storytelling shows each month, with five individuals each telling 12-minute true stories, without notes. Listen to some of these stories
here. (And hear
stories from seven scientists at ScienceOnline2012.)
In health care,
narrative medicine is returning to the skillset of caregivers. At Duke, the
Documenting Medicine program provides training to residents and fellows who want to tell stories in video.
Voices of Medicine show
Casbah, a Durham music club, has given over its stage every Tuesday evening for spoken-word events, including
Professor Diablo's True Revue and
Mixtape, is sha-bang of great artists showing their work and reading the works of others.
The Casbah stage also has hosted a narrative variety show called
Talk Story. It returns Tues., March 12, 2013 at 8 p.m. for a show featuring the stories of the faculty and trainees of the Department of Medicine.
We're calling it Voices of Medicine.
Dr. Klotman invites you to consider sharing your story – whether it's about an incident that inspired to you to a career in medicine, or about a realization that came to you in the lab, or even about a lesson you learned far from the medical center.
We'll select a handful of storytellers for the show, invite all faculty, housestaff and friends of the department to fill the club, and make it a great night. Plus, we've hired Jeff Polish, executive director of the Monti, to help you hone your story to an 8-minute gem that will help you shine on stage.
