Chu and Hager promoted to Assistant Professor

Congratulations to Drs. Eric Chu and Zachary Hager for their promotions to Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of General Internal Medicine, effective November 1, 2021.

Eric Chu, MD - DRAH Hospitalist

Dr. Chu joined the Hospital Medicine program at Duke Raleigh Hospital (DRAH) in 2013.  Dr. Chu was named Top Hospitalist of the Year by the DRAH Hospital Medicine program for fiscal years 2016, 2019, and 2020.   He has participated in several hospital committees and quality improvement initiatives.  Past projects include standardizing discharge summaries for the Division of General Internal Medicine, improving the multidisciplinary rounding process for the DRAH medical/surgical floor, and creating a formal handoff protocol for the DRAH Hospital Medicine program.  Currently, he is leading a project on improving the completion and accuracy of medication reconciliations for all hospital admissions.

Zachary Hager, MD - DUH Hospitalist

Dr. Hager joined Duke faculty in 2017 and became a full time hospitalist/nocturnist at Duke University Hospital (DUH). Since then, he has worked with hundreds of medical students, PA students, and internal medicine residents. Rarely a night goes by that Dr. Hager is not the attending of record on an admission with a trainee. His main educational mission is to allow residents to showcase their proficiency, and guide them in the correct clinical direction. As a teacher, he believes it is not his role to showcase his own medical knowledge; rather, he believes his role is to shepherd trainees and allow them to correctly connect the clinical dots.
