Congratulations Nancy Thomasson on Retirement!

Nancy Thomasson has been working for Duke for the past 13 years. She began her career with the university in 2002 in the Global Education Office, assisting undergraduate students preparing to study abroad. She then transitioned to Hematology-Oncology, and finally arrived to the Division of General Internal Medicine (GIM) in February 2014 as a Staff Assistant. “It has been a learning process all the way through, and it is fulfilling to be able to put into practice the lessons and experiences learned as I went into each phase,” says Nancy.

Nancy’s last day with Duke was this past Friday, December 18. Though retired and looking forward to spending more quality time with her family, she still plans to stay busy by volunteering. “I plan to be a part time volunteer either at one of Duke’s hospitals or at an elementary school just down the road from my house.  I want to still use what I have learned, to be useful and also ensure that my husband and I don’t drive each other crazy,” she says. Nancy and her husband, Jim, also talked about doing volunteer work together at some of the assisted living facilities.

I am and forever will be a Duke fan.  I am thankful that I’ve been able to work with some very wonderful people.  I look forward to what God has in store for me in the years ahead.”  -Nancy Thomasson

Thank you Nancy for all of your hard work and commitment to Duke over the years, we will certainly miss seeing that smiling face!

“Nancy has been a wonderful addition to our team since my arrival. Many, many staff and faculty members have commented on her team spirit, positive spirit and helpfulness. We are all grateful for her collegial spirit and we wish Nancy the very best as she transitions to this next phase of her journey.”

– Dr. Ebony Boulware, Chief of the Division of General Internal Medicine
