The Duke Global Health Institute's Evidence Lab recently developed a series of tools to help social enterprises in healthcare evaluate their services, products and/or technologies. One of the evaluation tools (#3 of 5), entitled, Finding the right analysis 2017 for your evaluation needs, was co-authored by GIM's own Santanu Datta, PhD.
Datta explains: "The economic evaluation toolkit I helped the Duke Global Health Institute develop is one of the toolkits available as a part of their Evidence Lab’s Evaluation Toolkits. A mission of the Duke Global Health Institute (DGHI) is to help non-governmental organizations, agencies, and businesses in developing countries to procure funding and carry out research that promotes public health. As a part of the funding process, the funders require that the grant seekers set clear objectives and collect and analyze data to assess whether those objectives were being met. These agencies often don’t have the knowledge and expertise in-house to do such research so DGHI has created the Evidence Lab to assist in this process."

Dr. Datta currently holds joint appointments as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine at Duke University and as a Health Services Research Scientist at the Center for Health Services Research in Primary Care at the Durham VA. Dr. Datta’s areas of research include intervention and implementation cost analyses, cost-effectiveness analysis, decision analytic modeling, budget impact analysis, and utility/preference measurement. He has applied his research methods in a wide variety of disease areas including cardiovascular disease, diabetes, hypertension, lung cancer, osteoarthritis, stroke, hip fracture prevention, ulcer prevention, smoking cessation, genomics, and various telemedicine interventions.
