David Zaas appointed president of Duke Raleigh Hospital

Dzau, MD, chancellor for Health Affairs and CEO of DUHS, and William Fulkerson, Jr., MD, executive vice president of DUHS, announced today that David Zaas, MD, MBA, associate professor of medicine (Pulmonary, Allergy & Critical Care Medicine) and vice chair for clinical practice, has been named president of Duke Raleigh Hospital, effective July 1, 2014.

Dr. Zaas currently serves as Chief Medical Officer for the faculty practice and Vice-Chair for Clinical Practice in the Duke Department of Medicine. He has also played a major role in advancing a clinical access initiative across Duke University Health System. In these varied roles, Dave has demonstrated strong leadership, creativity, and the ability to move significant projects through to completion.

We look forward to the contributions Dr. Zaas will make in this role as a practicing physician leader who understands the challenges and opportunities in today's healthcare environment and is committed to working with providers and staff to enhance patient centered care delivery. Zaas earned his MD degree from Northwestern University Medical School and his MBA from Duke's Fuqua School of Business. A pulmonary medicine physician by training, he formerly served as medical director for lung transplantation at Duke.
