James Davis was a featured speaker October 6th, alongside the Deputy Secretary of Health Services, NC Department of Health & Human Services and the Executive Director of the North Carolina Alliance for Health, for the launching of “Race to Quit, NC,” the official kick-off of a statewide smoking cessation campaign.
Davis is a GIM faculty member and Director of Duke’s Center for Smoking Cessation.
When a smoker comes in to see a medical provider, when we can work with medications, use appropriate medications for that smoker, and look at the reasons why they’ve relapsed in the past and really provide therapy to help manage those problems, then we get those rates way up.

More than 50 of North Carolina’s leading patient groups, health care systems and nonprofits are participating in this campaign dedicated to connecting tobacco users with the help they need to cross the finish line to a smoke-free life. The event was broadcast widely on radio, television, and newspapers around the state. As of October 15th, The news of Race to Quit, NC spread via:

A Multi-state Campaign
“Race to Quit, NC” is one a many states engaged in a smoking cessation effort. The campaign includes physician groups, county health departments, hospitals, advocacy organizations such as the American Lung Association, American Heart Association, CDC, and the state Department of Health and Human Services.
Next, to the NC State Legislature
Later this year, Davis has been asked to speak to the NC state legislature.
