The Department of Medicine received 20 proposals for the first Chair’s Pilot Project Grants in Health Data Science.
Joseph Rogers, MD, interim chair of the Department of Medicine, has notified four Medicine faculty that they will receive funding under the program. Their proposed projects were deemed to be most aligned with the interests of the Department, the larger health data sciences initiative across campus (see Duke Forge), and with the highest likelihood of impact on the Department.
- Ankoor Shah, MD, assistant professor of medicine (Rheumatology and Immunology) for a project entitled “Identifying and Intervening to Improve Primary Non-Adherence in Lupus Patients”
- Sreekanth Vemulapalli, MD, assistant professor of medicine (Cardiology), for a project entitled “Machine Learning for Improved Identification of Rare and Common Cardiovascular Diseases”
- Blake Cameron, MD, instructor in medicine (Nephrology), for a project entitled “Does this Referral to a Specialist Warrant a Face-to Face visit?”
- Neha Pagidipati, MD, MPH, assistant professor of medicine (Cardiology), for a project entitled “A Health Data Science Approach to Personalized Obesity Management”
Megan Clowse, MD, associate professor of medicine (Rheumatology and Immunology) chairs the department's health data science effort in collaboration with Ann Marie Navar, MD, PhD, assistant professor of medicine (Cardiology).
