Dr. Adia Ross Promoted to Associate Professor

Congratulations to Dr. Adia Ross on receiving a distinguished academic promotion in the division of General Internal Medicine (GIM), effective December 1, 2023.

Adia Ross, MD, MHA, was recruited to join Duke faculty in July of 2013 where she began her career as a hospitalist and as the Assistant Chief Medical Officer for Quality. She was promoted to Assistant Professor of Medicine in 2018, while she was the Medical Director of Hospital Medicine at Duke Raleigh.  She currently serves as the Chief Medical Officer of Duke Regional Hospital, a position she has held since January 2020. 

In addition to the roles described above, Dr. Ross was the assistant program director for the Management and Leadership Pathway for Residents (MLPR) from 2013-2017 and continues to serve as a faculty advisor for the medical school’s leadership development curriculum, LEAD. She also serves on the medical school committee, the Committee for the Appropriate Treatment of Learners. She has been an outstanding role model and mentor to a number of the students, residents and junior faculty. 

For Dr. Ross’s clinical duties, she attends on the general medicine service at Duke Regional Hospital for approximately 6 weeks a year. She has established herself as a clinical leader who is known for achieving results and leading high-performing teams. 

Dr. Ross has had multiple leadership positions throughout Duke with notable successes in areas of quality improvement, physician practice management and workflow development. This work has led to several abstracts, intramural presentations, national presentations and publications. 

Regionally, she was also recognized by the Triangle Business Journal as a “40 Under 40” Winner in 2019. She has served on the Society of Hospital Medicine’s Practice Management Committee since 2018 and was recently appointed to the NC Hospital Association’s Physician Advisory Board and on the Board for Central Carolina Hospital, a Duke LifePoint facility.  In addition, in her current role as the Chief Medical Officer at Duke Regional Hospital she served as a media spokesperson and participated in several media events to educate the public on public health measures, vaccines and to help interpret the complex ever-evolving measures we were taking to keep the public safe.
