This project will make possible the ideal of “one patient one record” by significantly reducing the current inefficient technology fragmentation. While this project has a primary application for Duke Medicine’s clinical enterprise, it will also enable transformative advances to our medical education and research missions. As such, this project represents perhaps the single most important and foundational strategic priority for the organization. Moreover, the success of this project is a shared responsibility of the leadership, physicians and staff throughout Duke Medicine and the Private Diagnostic Clinic. This project will create a consistent and seamless EHR solution resulting in efficient workflow, data sharing and enhanced provider communication. It will provide a data foundation to support health analytics and predictive modeling, the ability to effectively manage population health, provide context specific decision support to improve care quality, further engage patients in their own care, and re-establish Duke Medicine as an innovative user of health technology. This is a historic investment and commitment by the organization that will not only achieve the many significant benefits of an integrated EHR, but will form the foundation for a fundamental restructuring of the information technology infrastructure across all of Duke Medicine. It also represents a meaningful response to the number one need as expressed consistently by physicians over the past few years. The successful implementation of this project will require the best of many of us at a time when the environment is requiring that we respond to multiple challenges. Much will be done to keep you all informed of our progress on this journey to implementation and you will be hearing more about this project in coming weeks.[/toggle] The memo was sent from the following leaders:
