Duke is the recipient of a $10 million grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to support efforts to develop and test innovative approaches to reducing infection in health care settings. Daniel Sexton, MD, professor of medicine (Infectious Diseases) and director of the Duke Infection Control Outreach Network (DICON), will be the principal investigator. Duke will partner with UNC on this initiative, forming the Duke University-UNC Prevention Epicenter. They will research ways to reduce bacteria-borne diseases primarily found in hospital settings, especially patient rooms. The information gained from this research will be applied to hospitals in DICON and could potentially impact other hospitals across the nation. For more information read the news release.
