Ellen Davis, RN, MS, CDE, FAADE, diabetes clinical nurse specialist, was named Nurse Educator of the Year by the North Carolina Nurses Association at their annual convention in October.
Davis was praised for expertly mentoring other nurses and nursing students, educating patients, and developing system-wide initiatives to improve diabetes care. The association also noted that Davis often spends extra time ensuring both patients and their loved ones are prepared for the impact of diabetes, something that can often be overlooked.
Davis has been a Certified Diabetes Educator since 1987, was named a Fellow in the American Association of Diabetes Educators in 2009, has co-written two book chapters on diabetes, and presented dozens of papers and abstracts over the years, including at the 2014 NCNA Annual Convention.
“This is a terrific achievement and we are privileged to have Ellen on our Endocrinology team,” said Tracy Setji, MD, assistant professor of medicine (Endocrinology, Metabolism and Nutrition).
Previously the Nurse Educator of the Year award has gone to full-time academic educators of nursing undergraduate and graduate students.
“Ellen educates doctors, too, as I can affirm,” said John Guyton, MD, associate professor of medicine (Endocrinology).
Other Endocrinology faculty similarly offered their congratulations to Davis.
“Many thanks Ellen for helping to shape me into the patient-centered endocrinologist I hope to be, said Stéphanie Mayer, MD, adjunct assistant professor of medicine (Endocrinology).
