Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine program application deadline 11/27/13

By etm18@dhe.duke.edu
The Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine (ELAM) program for women is now seeking applications from women faculty who are at the rank of associate professor or higher. This one-year fellowship prepares senior faculty to take on leadership roles in academic medicine, dentistry and public health. Participation in the program takes significant personal and institutional commitment, which must be demonstrated during the application process. Potential applicants are encouraged to discuss the program with their Chairs and to communicate with the School of Medicine's Office for Faculty Development early about plans to apply (684-4139, ann.brown@duke.edu).
ELAM provides a tremendous opportunity for women in academics to develop their leadership skills, and I strongly encourage those of you with leadership aspirations to apply. - Ann Brown, Vice Dean for Faculty.
How to Apply: There will be an internal selection process as institutions are limited in the number of applications that can be submitted. If you would like to be considered, please submit a letter of intent and biosketch/CV to facdev@dm.duke.edu no later than Wed., Nov. 27. A selection committee will choose the one Duke applicant in mid-December. Whoever is selected will need the support of the dean and their department chair, so if you have not already discussed your plans to apply with your chair, please start this process right away. If you have already met with your chair, it would be beneficial to include any outcomes from that meeting in your letter of intent. ELAM looks for applicants with very clear institutional backing, so any evidence you can provide of a pathway toward a leadership role will be reviewed favorably by the committee. You will be notified of your application status in December. If you are selected as the Duke applicant, you will need to submit an application and letters of recommendation and nomination to ELAM in January. Cost: In the past, and dependent on the availability of funds, the Dean’s office has supported tuition for this program. Travel costs have generally been covered by the department or the faculty member's funds. More information: For more information or to view the application, please visit the ELAM website.
