Jacqueline Bolwell, MD, officially joined the division this summer after completing her internal medicine residency here. She is a medical instructor and nighttime hospitalist (aka nocturnist) at Duke University Hospital. Lean more about her interests, both inside and outside the hospital, from our interview.
How did you get in to this specific field?
I was at Duke for residency, and I loved my general medicine night rotations as a second year resident. I love the way the hospital works at night, and I feel like more time is more flexible and devoted to patient care than administrative duties during the day. I also get the opportunity to teach and work with second year Duke residents and sub-I’s overnight which I really enjoy.

What brought you to Duke?
I chose Duke for my internal medicine residency because I loved the Duke atmosphere and the positive interactions among the attendings and residents. My family is incredibly happy in Durham, and I am excited to transition to this new role as an attending at Duke.
What are your hobbies or interests outside of work?
I spend most of my time outside of the hospital chasing after my 15 month old. I also enjoy good food, wine, and traveling. My husband and I also really love watching college basketball and football.
What is a fun fact about yourself?
I grew up on a ranch in Texas riding horses and raising exotic deer.
