The BIRCWH (K12) career development program is administered through the Duke School of Medicine, but is open to applicants from all Duke University Schools and Departments. Junior faculty engaged in interdisciplinary basic, translational, behavioral, clinical, and/or health services research are encouraged to apply.
BIRCWH research spans the entire spectrum of Women’s Health topics and research involving sex/gender similarities or differences in biology, health or disease. The program is open to all types of clinicians and non-clinicians. Underrepresented Minorities are especially encouraged to apply. The BIRCWH Program provides advanced training, mentoring, and career guidance for junior faculty with less than 6 years of research experience who are interested in an independent interdisciplinary scientific career. The BIRCWH provides 75% salary support (50% for surgical specialties) for up to $100.000 per year for a minimum of two years and up to 5 years. The BIRCWH award also includes limited funds for research support and travel.
