Sally Kornbluth, PhD, vice dean for basic science at Duke School of Medicine, recently announced that there is $700,000 available through the Duke-Coulter Translational Partnership Grant for direct support of translational projects between biomedical engineers and faculty in the School of Medicine. Requirements: There must be at least two PIs, one primary or secondary faculty on the Department of Biomedical Engineering and one primary or secondary faculty from the School of Medicine (or other clinical school) who has access to patients or samples. The program goals are to improve the health care: Measures of success include translation of projects to industry via licensing and new venture creation and other metrics including changes in health care practice and securing additional follow-on funding. Projects are funded for one year at a time, though applications that anticipate needing more than one year to be translated are common. New collaborations are encouraged. Details about the program can be found at: http://www.bme.duke.edu/coulter/. Applications are due March 11. Interested faculty should contact Barry Myers, MD, PhD, MBA, at barry.myers@duke.edu to discuss their applications.
