Laura Svetkey, MD, MHS, Vice Chair for Faculty Development and Diversity, shares the following NHLBI funding opportunities that focus on diversity in medical research:
- Short-Term Research Education Program to Increase Diversity in Health-Related Research (R25) : This program provides short-term research opportunities for underrepresented undergraduate and health professional pre-doctoral students in NHLBI mission-areas.
- T32 Training Program for Institutions That Promote Diversity (T32): This training grant program provides research training in the NHLBI mission areas for graduate and postdoctoral students at diversity-promoting eligible institutions.
- Mentored Career Award for Faculty at Institutions That Promote Diversity (K01): This program is for junior faculty at Institutions that Promote Diversity (i.e., minority serving Institutions such as HBCUs). Any individual that meets the eligibility criteria at one of these Institutions may apply. The individual may or may not be an underrepresented minority.
- Mentored Career Development Award to Promote Faculty Diversity/Re-Entry in Biomedical Research (K01): This program is for individuals from underrepresented minority groups, the disabled or anyone re-entering the workforce, from any Institution.
