By ajz6@dhe.duke.edu
[box type="info"]Don't forget: Proposals for the School of Medicine's interdisciplinary colloquia are due Wed., July 31.[/box] The School of Medicine announced the third annual RFP to provide support for interdisciplinary colloquia that bring together basic science, translational and clinical faculty members with common interests in a biomedical problem or area. Interested applicants are encouraged to read about colloquia that have been funded in previous years at http://medschool.duke.edu/research/interdisciplinary-colloquia. FUNDING:  Awards of up to $5,000 will be provided to support each successful proposal.  Funds can be used to cover the cost of food, meeting venue, external speakers or other meeting costs. REQUIREMENTS:  Proposals must be submitted by teams representing two or more departments, institutes or centers.  Applicants for funds must be faculty members with primary appointments in a School of Medicine department. Meetings may have any format (e.g., small monthly dinner meetings, larger quarterly meetings, other approaches), but should be designed to bring together lab-based investigators and clinicians with diverse perspectives. Preference will be given to proposals that articulate a plan to sustain interactions and/or prepare joint grant applications after the initial colloquium supported by the SoM. PROCESS:  Please send a one-page (maximum) description of the proposed colloquia, organizers and potential participants, the format of the meeting(s), plan for advertising, budget, and plan to sustain the meetings and/or organize multi-investigator grant applications after the initial funding has been used. Renewals of previously-funded colloquia will be considered, though these applicants must articulate the value added by their colloquia over the past year(s), including submitted collaborative publications and grants from colloquia participants. Applications should be sent in PDF format to Carolyn Mackman (carolyn.mackman@duke.edu) with the subject line “Interdisciplinary Colloquium Funds” by July 31, 2012.
