From the Director
Whoa - it’s April? When did that happen? I am still recovering from watching Tre Jones after the end of the Duke-MSU game. Seriously heartbreaking. Maybe he will decide that the NBA isn’t for him and eventually be one of our interns. But for those of you still alive in the bracket challenge – good luck!
Right now the big reminders are to 1.) complete your ACGME survey, 2.) complete your ACGME survey, and 3.) complete your ACGME survey. If you are one of the 52 percent of our residents who have done this already – THANK YOU! If it is still on your “to-do” list, please go ahead and complete it when you have a few minutes. Many thanks from me and the program leadership.
Kudos
Kudos this week go to Kathryn Hutchins and JD Ike from Cameron Strong for their amazing team leadership on VA Gen Med, to Lena Vaynberg for being featured in the KidneyZone online journal club, to Sarah Norton from Caitlyn Tillberg and Brian Kincaid for outstanding cross cover on GM 12, and to Claire Smith and Filley Howe for outstanding SAR talks!
Congratulations to both Mark Robertshaw AND Carlos Rivera on their engagements!
PubMed from the Program
This week’s pubmed from the program goes to our Society of Hospital Medicine presenters, including Erin Frost who WON the entire poster competition for her clinical vignette (with SAR Matt Labriola and faculty mentor Aubrey Jolly-Graham!), as well as our other presenters Sam Dizon and Sheila Sherzoy. Chief Jenny Van Kirk presented, as well, and Winn Seay was an author on Poonam Sharma’s poster! Fantastic representation of Duke!!
Have a great week!
Aimee
Clinic Corner: PRIME
Contributed by Sonal Patel and Leigh Wynkoop
Thanks to everybody who completed the continuity clinic survey. We will be taking a look at the results to see what changes we can make to make PRIME a great learning environment.
At the suggestion of one of you during LEAD week, we will trial sending out a monthly email with clinic updates on the 1st of the month. Please keep an eye out for this and read it – it will have important news about how to order items, changes in meds on formulary, staff updates, etc. – things you need to know!
We have just started a monthly injection/procedures clinic on Friday afternoons with Dr. Goldberg precepting – this will be for the LEAD resident of the day to get some procedures in. If you have a patient needing a joint injection or skin cryo/minor skin procedure, please speak to Carmen to arrange this.
We’ll soon be trialing using magnets on the sign-in board for you to note if you’re running behind in clinic, so the staff can let your patients know and so LEAD may have a sense of whether you need some assistance (even getting help just with med rec can, as you know, be a help if you’re running behind!). As a reminder, the nurses get 15 minutes starting with the appointment time to do the visit intake and reminders; YOUR time for the patient is 15 minutes after the stated appointment time and you have a full 30 minutes allotted.
Thanks everybody and let’s make it a great spring in PRIME.
