We are in full swing with our virtual curriculum – ongoing thanks to the Chiefs and ACRs for making this happen. Special thanks to Dr. Anne Phelps for her amazing board review – special sessions for interns/JARs and additional sessions for SARs. Dr. Phelps is a board review genius so please take advantage of this incredible learning opportunity.
Also please keep submitting your research for the first ever virtual Resident Research Grand Rounds! Posters you presented in person or electronically at national meetings or the NC ACP are eligible, as well as other vignettes or QI work. Please email Dr. Arcasoy with any questions.
Kudos
Kudos this week go to Matt McCulloch for his excellent SAR talk as well as Nicholas Koutlas for doing the first virtual Chair’s Conference. To Colin Smith for his lifesaving efforts during deployment to the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic, and thank you to Marius Chukwurah, Tamara Saint Surin and alum Sipa Yankey for participating in the virtual SNMA recruitment fair! . Additional kudos to Mary-Jo Obeid from Matt Labriola for excellent clinical work and a fantastic attitude on 9100 and to the CLC nurses from James Deardorff for outstanding patient care and teamwork in challenging circumstances.

This week’s pubmed from the program are for two of our chief residents, Caroline Sloan and Jared Lowe, both who had recent publications, and one for Kim Darlington (with former VA Chief Kara Wegermann) - see article below. Jared’s work on advanced care planning with Azalea Kim has been highlighted on medium.com, and Caroline's work was published in JAMA: Medicare Enrollment Among Patients With End-Stage Kidney Disease Receiving Dialysis in Outpatient Facilities Between 2005 and 2016. Feeling down? Need to talk to someone? Opportunities for Wellness
All trainees at Duke have FREE access to Personal Assistance Services (PAS), which is the faculty/employee assistance program of Duke University. The staff of licensed professionals offer confidential assessment, short-term counseling, and referrals to help resolve a range of personal, work, and family problems. PAS services are available free of charge to Duke faculty and staff, and their immediate family members. An appointment to meet with a PAS counselor may be arranged by calling the PAS office at 919-416-1PAS (919-416-1727), Monday through Friday between 8:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M. For assistance after hours, residents and fellows can call the Blood and Body Fluid Hotline (115 inside DUH, 919-684-1115 outside) for referral to behavioral health resources.
