From the Director
Thank you to everyone for helping with moving patients during the tornado. What another great show of #DukeFamily!
We are heading into the last two blocks of the year. Details to remember include logging procedures, meeting with advisors, checking in about fellowships and jobs if you haven’t (JARs) and making sure your MedHub stuff is up to date. For interns and SARs, Ernest will reach out about end of year meetings.
Kudos
Kudos this week go to Helen Zhang for her great SAR talk, to Jordan Gales for an excellent chairs conference, to Chris Ferreiri from Brian Schneider for team leadership, to Alex Sullivan for a skilled outpatient management of a sick patient, and Nicole Jawitz for thoughtful workups and thorough and timely notes at the DOC this past week! (Both from Winn Seay). And kudos to med student Kevin Lin from Dagmara Danek for great work on cards consults.
Congratulations to Brian Wasserman and Christine Bates on their wedding! Many thanks to Tamara Saint Surin and Marius Chukwurah for representing Duke at the national SNMA meeting.
PubMed from the Program
This week’s pubmed from the program goes to Tara Holder and Alex Sullivan for their abstract accepted to the Society for Vascular Medicine meeting. Clinic Corner: PRIME
Contributed by Sonal Patel and Leigh Wynkoop
Thanks to those who have come to Town Hall so far. We have our last Town Hall this Wednesday; please attend! We also really appreciate the feedback we received on the survey as it helps us improve PRIME’s learning environment for you.
Our next PRIME Updates email on May 1 will have some info in there that you have requested either at Town Hall or in your continuity clinic survey. Get used to checking your email on the 1st of the month for these clinic updates/tips.
Great discussion led by Ben Ranard at the recent residency journal club about primary care provided in VA residency clinics vs. in VA attending clinics. You guys do a great job as we have consistently seen in our HEDIS metrics for PRIME! For your edification, those reminders such as HTN: BP > 140/90 are HEDIS (Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set) metrics and were developed not at the VA but by CMS (Medicare folks) and NCQA (National Committee for Quality Assurance). These metrics are used at all healthcare practices nationwide, not just at the VA, to evaluate the quality of care provided. Dr. Goldberg can expound on the VA’s performance on those metrics at length and will happily tell you that the VA outperforms other healthcare systems nationwide and locally. Thanks for all you do for our patients!
