From the Director
Nice to be back at the hospital this weekend (seriously, after being away for 14 days, fun to see some people while rounding!). The #tacos are flying off the shelves, and it is great to see how well everyone is working together. This is the big week where our SARs hit “send” on those fellowship applications, and we are excited to see the interviews start coming in. Look for some communication later this week from the chiefs and me to explain the interview season scheduling – clearly the set up is different for you all this year, but we are sure there are still a lot of questions about how to make things go smoothly.
Kudos
So kudos this week to Hannah Florian from Dr. Stephen Shaheen in the Duke ED for amazing work and learning in the ED, to Ahmad Mourad from Ruchi Dochi and Dr. Jamie Fox for explaining the RECOVERY trial at peds journal club, from Dr. Jamie Fox to all the residents who helped or offered to help the MS1’s virtual teaching Ann Cameron Barr, Mai Bedair, Marge DeOliveria, Henry Foote, Aaron Heil, Nicole Helmke, Elizabeth Hoffman, Neha Kayastha, Govind Krishnan, Grace Lee, Karina Massad, and Monty Natour. The following residents were more than willing to volunteer their time and deserve my thanks as well: Peggy Sahu, Micah Schub, Sitharthan Sikar, Colin Smith, Austin Wesevich, Geargin Wilson, Allen Witt, Katie Wood, and Christopher Zheng.
Also kudos from the taco line to Saad Atiq from Harsh Patolia for being an awesome VA JAR, to Brian Rabe from David Elliott for teaching the team at sign out, to Sean Taasan from Megan Barrett for leading their VA team (and right back at ya Megan from Sean for great work), to Kristen Binz from David Elliott for crushing Duke GM (and making homemade salsa!) and right back to David from Kristen for leading the team, to Ryan Keane from Megan and Sean for helping with a very sick patient, to Cindy Pabon from Chris Asuzu for going above and beyond, to Stacy Bagrova from Bari Rosenberg for being a fantastic team leader. Y’all are awesome. To Nate Goodwin from Hayley Cunningham for running a code like a seasoned attending!
A HUGE DUKE FAM CONGRATULATIONS to Neha Kayastha and Vinay Choksi on their wedding and to Hayley Cunningham and Arjun Jagdish on their wedding!!!
PubMed from the Program
This week’s pubmed from the program goes to our Duke Cardiology fellowship (featuring former IM Duke Resident Dr. Sipa Yankey) on the CardioNerds podcast! You can also hear former IM Duke Resident Dr. Tara Holder talking about Vandy cards fellowship as well.
Have a great week!
Aimee

PSQC Meeting
The first IM residency Patient Safety and Quality Council meeting of the year will be Tues., Aug. 11, from 6:30-7:30 p.m. If you're in the hospital, feel free to stop by Room 8262. If not, join us at this zoom link: https://duke.zoom.us/j/92429006924. All trainees at Duke have FREE access to Personal Assistance Services (PAS), which is the faculty/employee assistance program of Duke University. The staff of licensed professionals offer confidential assessment, short-term counseling, and referrals to help resolve a range of personal, work, and family problems. PAS services are available free of charge to Duke faculty and staff, and their immediate family members. An appointment to meet with a PAS counselor may be arranged by calling the PAS office at 919-416-1PAS (919-416-1727), Monday through Friday between 8:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M. For assistance after hours, residents and fellows can call the Blood and Body Fluid Hotline (115 inside DUH, 919-684-1115 outside) for referral to behavioral health resources. Another resource is Duke Outpatient Psychiatry Referrals at (919) 684-0100 or 1-888-ASK-DUKE. https://www.hr.duke.edu/pas/
