Internal Medicine Residency News, Aug, 23rd 2021

From the Director

It’s been a busy week and lots happening this week as well. Many thanks to all who helped us run a fun and successful and safe intern retreat on Thursday. The ITE seems to be going smoothly – please pay attention to your emails about when and where (JARS, SARs who selected to take the exam, and combined program folks). This week we have our GME Wide DEI First Look. Virtual event and the PWIM Faculty-Trainee outdoor mentoring event.

Congratulations to alum and Jets coach JD Davy and Alyssa Davy on the birth of Calvin!  And belated congrats to Sebastian Estrada on his wedding!!

Kudos
Kudos this week to Med Peds alum Dr. Amy Lee, and residents Sith Sekar and Grace Lee for an outstanding CCC Conference on Wednesday, to Nathan Goodwin on a fantastic SAR talk, to Nathan Hirshman for his composure and care for a very sick patient on 9300 (from Dr. Suchita Shah Sata and Dr. G), to Karina Mora Massad and Jackie Kercheval for great care in the CICU from Sriya Muralidharan, to Bari Rosenberg from JT Tanaka for excellent work in a very sick MICU, to Mae Hamilton, Matt Townsend and Saad Atiq from Zach Lorsch for tucking patients in so well for the night, again to Nathan Hirshman from Sara Barlow for great SAR leadership, to Sean Taasan, Michael Cosiano for being great SARs and Drake Edwards for being a stellar co-intern from Nicole Dussault, to Matt Goodwin, Megan Barrett, JT Tanaka, Maxine Chan and Harsh Patolia for being awesome MICU partners with Bari Rosenberg, and to Matt Pisarcik, Nish Shivakumar and Sara Barlow from Matt Labs for helping him as he returned to fellow-hood! More kudos to our amazing ACRs who just finished their stint – Matt Abbott, Hannah Florian and Ryan Duffy (and for a great LEADS!) and to Ashley Thrower from Dr. Carolyn Avery for excellent patient centered care in clinic and Kathryn Clary from Roshni Dhoot for great work on neuro nights.

This week’s pubmed from the program goes to the Med Psych Trio of Colin Smith, Alissa Stavig and Peter McCann! Smith CM, Stavig A, McCann P, Moskovich AA and Merwin RM. ‘Let’s Talk About your Note’: Using Open Notes as an Acceptance and Commitment Therapy Based Intervention in Mental Health Care.
