From the Director

Happy August! Even if it is a bit on the rainy side, the year is really getting underway.  Welcome to Dr. Cooney who just finished her first week as the Chair of Medicine! Great to see her on rounds and at noon and Chair’s conferences!

Lots of events last week! Thank you to Suchita Sata, Lisa Criscione-Schreiber, Madhu Eluri, Jessie Gu, Nancy Yang and Keva Garg for planning the PWIM Intern Welcome Event last Thursday! Great idea, great turnout, great people!  Also thanks to Ken Goldberg for hosting the GIM Journal Club (should attendings hang around during work rounds? Ask your colleagues about the discussion of the recent article examining whether attending hovering stifles intern input into patient care!), to Tara Holder and Alex Sullivan for getting people out to practice football in the billion-percent humidity and to Kim Evans for hosting the MRRC Ice Cream Social. Many thanks to Hannah Dzmictrowicz for helping organize the SAR auction party at our house on Friday! Looking forward to many more gatherings on the back porch.

If you are interested in Narrative Medicine, please see the email from Matt Labriola to claim your spot in the upcoming Narrative Med Event. Space is limited!

Kudos

Kudos this week go to Benjamin Groves for his exceptional patient-centered care from Sarah Misrahi, BSN in 8W, to JD Ike for a stellar chair’s conference, to Mark Robertshaw from Ahmad Mourad and the cards nights crew for being an outstanding teacher on Cards nights, to our most recent ACRs Toi Spates, Chris Pumill and Nicole Jawitz for their teaching, and to my gen med team of Matt Tucker, Adam Brock, Michael Burt, Tanmay Gokhale and med students James Helzberg and Karishma Sriram for their excellent patient care and enthusiasm. Kudos to Qasim Husseini and Kyle Guerink from Bryan Golubski for being wonderful colleagues in the CCU. Special recognition to Kyle for the incredible impact he made on several families during the care of their loved one in the CCU. Congrats to Steve Pappas and Sean Doerfler who received a gold stars for excellent and compassionate care of patients.
