From the Director
Hi Everyone!
Happy August! We had a great afternoon this week at the intern retreat – from learning about mentoring and careers, to some reflection, to teamwork exercises, plus a time to chat with Dr. Rogers, a fun and productive time was had by all. Thanks very much to the JARs and SARs for helping out on all the various rotations, and to Erin Payne for planning, Jason Zhu, Dinushika Mohottige, Sam Lindner, Joe Rogers, Dani Zipkin, Bill Hargett, Schuyler Jones, Eileen Maziarz, Matt Crowley and Steve Crowley for facilitating various discussions and activities.
Thank you to everyone for their patience as the VA paging system is worked out. Whenever national changes are enacted in the VA system (remote login, new pagers, etc.), we need to adapt to what the situation calls for. I know the leadership is working hard to figure out all the nuances of pager coverage, etc., so please read the email from Marc, and stay tuned for updates as we learn them.
This week at noon conference has some different options on several days: Monday features both an optional debrief with Dr. Galanos and Vickie Leff (Monday) OR MKSAP Pulmonary. The “G-briefs” are a time for any resident to spend time with Dr. G and Vickie, debriefing about difficult, emotional or challenging events you have encountered during the year. No RSVP needed, just show up to either G-brief of MKSAP Pulmonary! Wednesday features either the SAR town hall with Dr. Rogers, OR med student teaching instruction with Dr. Chudgar. Class specific town halls with the Chair of Medicine started two years ago with Dr. Klotman and will continue several times a year this year with Dr. Rogers. SloDuMas have been collecting questions from the SARs for Dr. Rogers, or just bring your questions for him with you to the discussion! Everyone else, join Dr. Chudgar to learn some tips and tricks for medical student education.
Kudos
Kudos this week go to Jared Lowe, Sarah Nouri and Shai Posner from Steph Garbarino for being awesome dayfloats at the VA, to James Deardorff and Lindsay Shantzer from Brice Lefler for teamwork excellence at the VA, to Claire Smith and Zach Il’Giovine for being the “physical exam guinea pigs” during Physical Exam Week noon conference, and to Nicole Helmke from Marc Samsky for her fantastic care of a very sick veteran overnight.
PubMed from the Program
This week's pubmed from the program goes to Anubha Agarwal and her colleagues for their manuscript published in July in American Heart Journal entitled "One-year mortality outcomes and hospital readmissions of patients admitted with acute heart failure: Data from the Trivandrum Heart Failure Registry in Kerala, India."
