From the Director
Last MED RES NEWS of 2020. It’s been a year for sure. While all the memes and whatnot can rant about the general awfulness of 2020, and I think we can certainly be glad to be thinking about better days, a lot of good has happened too. We’ve got a challenging set of weeks ahead, and I wouldn’t want to be facing it with anyone but our #DukeFam! Please pay attention to your emails for vaccine information!
Kudos to our amazing dancing chiefs Govind, Hannah, Matt and Steph for the zoom holiday festivities as well as our super talented band Wheezer (Alex Grubb, Micah Schub and Daniel Bernstein). Many thanks also to Dani Zipkin for corralling the GME leadership into song. Nia says “if you can talk, you can sing,” but clearly she has never heard me.
Congratulations to Grandpa David Butterly (and Grandma Kay) on the birth of David Alexander Butterly! Looking forward to recruiting him to Duke Med Class of 2047.

Duke Primary Care Transformation Fellowship
The Duke Department of Family Medicine and Community Health is accepting applications to fill the third cohort of its two-year Primary Care Transformation Fellowship. The goal of the fellowship is to train physicians and physician assistants to lead health care transformation and improve health within their communities and community-based practice settings. Applications are due Jan. 31, 2021. Learn more.

All trainees at Duke have FREE access to Personal Assistance Services (PAS), which is the faculty/employee assistance program of Duke University. The staff of licensed professionals offer confidential assessment, short-term counseling, and referrals to help resolve a range of personal, work, and family problems. PAS services are available free of charge to Duke faculty and staff, and their immediate family members. An appointment to meet with a PAS counselor may be arranged by calling the PAS office at 919-416-1PAS (919-416-1727), Monday through Friday between 8:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M. For assistance after hours, residents and fellows can call the Blood and Body Fluid Hotline (115 inside DUH, 919-684-1115 outside) for referral to behavioral health resources.
