From the Director
Are you ready for the DOM Holiday Party? Looking forward to seeing you on Saturday! Many thanks to the Pulmonary Division for hosting Thirsty Thursday last week for our residents! Hosting will resume after the holidays so be on the lookout for a chance to spend time with faculty from our awesome DOM Divisions.
Congratulations again to our SARs for their fellowship matches and job placements! We had a great time celebrating this milestone with you last week. Special thanks to Nancy Yang and the ResCo for planning a great night and to all who helped the SARs celebrate. Kudos and thanks to Kim Darlington and Dan Turner from Josh Lee for helping him out in the VA MICU on match day.
Kudos
Other kudos go to Joyce Hwang from a patient and their family for exemplary care (and a gold star!), to Henry Foote for being an extremely helpful SAR in the CCU, and Emily Zalameni for her compassionate care in the CCU (both from Ryan Keane), to Lara Hayes for having great instincts and for a safe hand off of a sick patient at the VA, and to Bavak for his assistance with transition of care for this patient from Kim Darlington, and to JD Ike for a wonderful SAR talk and to Sara Coles for an awesome Chair’s conference. Many thanks to our My Take team of Mike Cosiano, Sara Coles, Stacy Bagrova and Tamara Saint Surin as well as our tour guides Nick Kamp, Mike Cosiano, Alex Reddy and Nick Ashur.
Congratulations to Jess Regan on being named a Mandel Cardiovascular Scholar!
PubMed from the Program
This week’s pubmed from the program goes to the team of Amber Meservey, Alex Sullivan and Paul Lantos for their case report from GM Duke getting published!
Have a great week!

Department of Medicine Giving Campaign
This holiday season, the Department of Medicine is asking for your help to support Durham children and families. Now through Dec. 14, 2019, we're kicking off a department-wide giving campaign and ask you to consider making a donation to Partners for Youth Opportunity (PYO), a local nonprofit organization in our community. Partners for Youth Opportunity provides Durham youth with opportunities to connect, develop, and contribute through mentoring, employment, and educational support. Learn more about the campaign.

All trainees at Duke have FREE access to Personal Assistance Services (PAS), which is the faculty/employee assistance program of Duke University. The staff of licensed professionals offer confidential assessment, short-term counseling, and referrals to help resolve a range of personal, work, and family problems. PAS services are available free of charge to Duke faculty and staff, and their immediate family members. An appointment to meet with a PAS counselor may be arranged by calling the PAS office at 919-416-1PAS (919-416-1727), Monday through Friday between 8:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M. For assistance after hours, residents and fellows can call the Blood and Body Fluid Hotline (115 inside DUH, 919-684-1115 outside) for referral to behavioral health resources. Another resource is Duke Outpatient Psychiatry Referrals at (919) 684-0100 or 1-888-ASK-DUKE. https://www.hr.duke.edu/pas/
