Internal Medicine Residency News, Feb. 11, 2019

From the Director

Happy FUN-bruary! First off, kudos to Bryan Golubski’s dog Harvey for becoming a member of ResCo and inviting dogs (and people) over for a Sunday party. Awesome work, Harvey. We will work on getting dog bones rotated into the snack basket at the next Costco run. Check out the FUN-bruary calendar for more events!

We want to thank Dr. Kim Evans and Dr. Cathy Kuhn for their hard work putting together a fantastic URIM Second Look weekend. Thank you to Tamara Saint-Surin and Marius Chukwurah for being on the panel and to all who came out to meet the applicants on Friday night!

Please check in with QI Chief Extraordinaire JP Shoup, if you have interest in the QI Chief position for 2020-21!

Even though it is February, and a bit cold and dark in the mornings, please communicate with Winn if you need to miss AM report – lots of great learning happening with cases prepared by your colleagues and teaching by a variety of great faculty!

Kudos

Many thanks to all faculty who participated in Mentoring Week, including our JAR night with the Division Chiefs and Fellowship Directors.  Many thanks also to Murat Arcasoy for his outstanding planning. Kudos this week go to the night float crew of Joe Lerman, Matt Carlisle, Eric Wei, and Kathryn Hutchins. They’ve handled some very sick patients (both cross-cover and admissions) this week (From JVK), to Ben Groves for excellent coordination of patient care when the VA ED was on divert and he managed to get a patient into eye clinic that same day since the ED was full (from Cindy Pabon), to Matt Carlisle going above and beyond to care for a sick in the ED while on night float (from Matt Labriola), and to Gil Acevedo and Lindsey Shantzer (from Venu Reddy) for going above and beyond as the VA Red Hospitalist SARs. And kudos to Alyssa Stavig and Elijah Lackey for receiving gold stars!

PubMed from the Program
This week’s pubmed from the program goes to Tamara Saint-Surin for her poster accepted to the national American College of Physicians meeting! "From sore throat to metastatic disease: the syndrome that should not be forgotten."

Have a great week!
Aimee
