Internal Medicine Residency News, Jan. 19, 2021

From the Director

It remains extremely busy in the hospitals and, as always, we are grateful for everyone’s incredible work. Students are back on the wards after break, and it is great to see them!

If you didn’t get a chance to watch our amazing IM Residency Alum Dr. Darrell Gray II’s Grand Rounds on Friday, please take time to watch it (view recording here). He’s an incredible speaker who is leading the way now at Ohio State and nationally with Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion work, as well as community partnership. His pathway from resident to health system leadership is incredible.

Kudos
Kudos this week go to Ahmad Mourad from Dr. Andrea Archibald for fantastic patient care at a very busy Duke Regional, to Karina Mora Massad for an outstanding AM report, to AD Khatri for a phenomenal Cohen Conference, to Allen Witt from Sarah Greene for being an awesome MICU resident at the VA, and back and forth between the VA GM team of Sarah Greene, Tingrui Zhao, Courtney Dominguez and Jen Dziwis for fantastic teamwork, to Tim Hopper for helping out with a very sick patient (from Sarah Greene), to Kim Darlington for literally helping a patient across the street (from Jon Reichstein), to Ashley Thrower and Monty Natour from Bari Rosenberg for helping manage a clinic code, to Neesha Nama from Nathan Hirshman for great work in the ED, to Emilio Guzman Cisneros from Roshni Dhoot for his excellent clinic note that helped the inpatient team, to GM 4 from Dr. Sata for amazing work (Cindy Pabon, Audrey Zhang, Olivia Jew as well as NFs Andrew Andreae, Sith Sekar, Joe Wawrzynski and Ann Cameron Barr).

Clinic Corner: PRIME

Contributed by Leigh Wynkoop and Sonal Patel

PRIME Clinic continues with a mix of telehealth and face-to-face visits. It’s been great seeing the SARs and JARs more frequently as we are opening up more on-team in-person appointments. We are going to be trialing more video visits in February as well as having more face-to-face availability.

LPN Joseph Collins remains deployed to inpatient side. We await further word on more potential nursing impact.

COVID-19 vaccines are being given per VA priority to ages 75+ and to those with certain medical condition and front line workers. Patients ages 65-74 wanting vaccine can try their local health department. We strongly suggest that patients keep an eye on the VA website to in case there are changes or if more vaccine clinics are opened in the near future, depending on vaccine availability. Please ask your patients to let us know if they get a COVID vaccine elsewhere.

PRIME attending Dr. John Williams has trimmed his precepting time to just Monday mornings; welcome to Dr. Christie Emler, Deputy Chief of Staff at Durham VAMC, who is now covering Tuesday morning precepting. Dr. Williams remains the fearless leader of PRIME Team L.

Thanks to all of you for your hard work during this time; our patient definitely appreciate you for the care you provide, especially during this time. Stay safe!
