From the Director
Welcome to the first Med Res News of the official New Year! Orientation week was seamless, with many thanks to the GME Office, as well as our spectacular Duke IM Admin Team (Lynsey, Tia, Kayla and Ernest!). We couldn’t have done it without you, and it is great to see our newest doctors here at Duke.
SARs (and Josh and Tanmay!): All ERAS PD/Chair’s letters are uploaded! Remember to request your transcripts and MSPE from your med school AND your USMLE transcripts directly from USMLE. When you are sending your applications, you will need to assign each item to the programs you are applying to. You can start doing this on JULY 5, and programs can begin downloading applications on JULY 15.
Kudos
Kudos this week once again to our graduated SARs (new fellows and attendings!), as well as to our now-JARs, now-SARs and interns. We are really excited for an amazing year. Huge kudos to Chris Ferreri for a legendary Tom Holland Memorial Lecture. Other kudos to Juliette Logan for helping out a colleague on Sunday, from Ahmad Mourad to Nick Ashur, Cassie Lautredou, and Puya Abbassi for making our last rotation of the year so amazing #CCUcytosisteam! And to the Cards fellows Navid Nafissi for covering our intern side so we could all go to Tom Holland, to Bryan Golubski for exceptional care and handoff of a sick patient in the VA ED from Sonali Bracken, and from Mike Grant to Nick Ashur in the CCU this week for taking on extra work and being a true team player during a rough shift.
If you have a shout out for a job well done by one of your colleagues, please send to me for inclusion in the MED RES NEWS!
PubMed from the Program
This week’s pubmed from the program goes to Ahmad Mourad for his THREE abstracts accepted to IDWeek! Fantastic work, Ahmad! Antibiotic Prophylaxis Strategies Prior to Left Ventricular Assist Device Implantation: A Survey of Practice; Reduction in Expected Survival Associated with Nontuberculous Mycobacterial Pulmonary Infection; and Voriconazole For Primary Prophylaxis: A Decade Of Trends And Outcomes.
Have a great week!
Aimee

From the Residency Office
Feeling down? Need to talk to someone? Opportunities for Wellness
All trainees at Duke have FREE access to Personal Assistance Services (PAS), which is the faculty/employee assistance program of Duke University. The staff of licensed professionals offer confidential assessment, short-term counseling, and referrals to help resolve a range of personal, work, and family problems. PAS services are available free of charge to Duke faculty and staff, and their immediate family members. An appointment to meet with a PAS counselor may be arranged by calling the PAS office at 919-416-1PAS (919-416-1727), Monday through Friday between 8:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M. For assistance after hours, residents and fellows can call the Blood and Body Fluid Hotline (115 inside DUH, 919-684-1115 outside) for referral to behavioral health resources. Another resource is Duke Outpatient Psychiatry Referrals at (919) 684-0100 or 1-888-ASK-DUKE. https://www.hr.duke.edu/pas/
