From the Director

Hi Everyone!

Week 2 is underway!  I am excited to start having a few words in the Med Res News again. Many many thanks to Elizabeth McCamic, Jen Averitt, Lynsey Michnowicz and Anton Zuiker for keeping the Med Res News on time and informative over the past 5 months!

Congratulations to the peer selected ResCo class representatives.  Intern class elections will be held soon!

GME also has a resident council, and you all were asked to vote on IM representatives.  Congratulations to Ankeet Bhatt, Sarah Nouri, Lauren Sharan, Ashley Spann and Leah Machen for being peer selected to represent internal medicine!

It’s a good time to remind everyone how to recognize your peers in the Med Res News!  Simply send an email to me or Erin recognizing the great work of your colleague, and we will give them the appropriate shout out in the next week’s news.

Our QI team is looking sharp! Tonight at the PSQC meeting, we will also toast the fantastic Lish Clark and thank her for her outstanding contributions to our program, and to Duke in general.  Joel Boggan is at the helm as our APD for QI and Patient Safety, and we will have a feature about Joel in our upcoming news.  We all look forward to his incredible energy and commitment to making quality and safety an integral part of our mission.

Kudos

This week’s kudos go to Elieth Martinez and Ali Saadi for starting of the year’s SAR talks! Additional kudos to Elieth from the 9300 nursing staff for outstanding communication overnight.  Kudos to Anubha Agarwal et al for picking up extra admissions on GenMed, to Zach Il'Giovine for providing additional EPIC training to friends in need while on CCU, and to Hari Ramalingam for providing dedicated team teaching time during a busy GenMed week. Kudos to Sam Lindner from Mike Grant for great teaching in the CCU during the last week of his residency. More congratulations to Shannon Niedermeyer for setting the bar extremely high for chair’s conference this year – what a fantastic job on Friday!  Our ACRs (Amanda Boyd, Ankeet Bhatt, and Tanya Aylward) are getting the year off to a great start as well.  And thanks to our ResCo chairs Megan Dupuis, Dan Maselli and Caroline Sloan for kicking off Tyler’s Thursdays.  Word on the street is that there was an outstanding turnout!

Have a great week!

Clinic Corner: DOC

Contributed by Lynn Bowlby and Greg Brown

Have you ever wondered where the idea(s) for different initiatives at the DOC came from? How do all the things going on at the DOC impact me in my day to day? What does it even mean to be a resident teaching clinic?

Time for some answers! In an idea that came from feedback around the TAGTEAM e-mails (thanks Jan!), we are proud to introduce DOC Dispatch!

DOC Dispatch will start as a (mostly) weekly e-mail. Each month with a new topic on some aspect of the DOC. There is no additional work involved (unless you have the honor of contributing to the monthly topic.)

It is our hope that everyone will learn more about the DOC and how we all add to the care of our diverse patients!

Coming next week, what’s homeBASE, anyway?  Is there a weekly hide ‘n’ seek game I’ve been missing?
