Internal Medicine Residency News, July 12th, 2021

From the Director

Things are settling in as we get further into July! Glad to see how well everyone is settling in to their new roles, jumping in with good conference attendance and getting a chance to enjoy Durham (JARs and chief night!). Our first Cohen Conference of the year was excellent (kudos, Casey Howe!)  Fellowship application uploads for SARs are happening as well – please reach out to Dr. Hargett or me with any questions.

Coach pairings for interns will be sent to you today! We look forward to you meeting your coaches and send a huge thank you to our faculty coaching team!

Kudos
Kudos this week to our newest ResCo reps SARs: Andrew Andreae, Hayley Cunningham, Joanna Cavalier, Ann Cameron Barr, Emory Buck, Kristin Corey, Priyanka Reddy, Anand Shah,Vivian Chen-Andrews, Bari Rosenberg and Gregg Robbins-Welty. Intern elections coming soon!

Big time belated kudos to Sebastian Estrada for his fantastic legend and lore THML noon conference, to Brian Rabe for a stellar SAR talk, to Tyler Couch from Dr. McNeill for stepping up at the DOC (also belated), to Carter Devlin, Megan Barrett, and Harsh Patolia from our entire GM1 team for taking excellent care of our patients overnight on Duke NF and to Peggy Sahu from Sam Dizon for being super pro-active about taking care of discharge summaries.

Pubmed from the Program
This week’s “Chief Resident Throwback”  pubmed from the program goes to  Dr. Dinushika Mohottige for her recent publication Racism and Kidney Health: Turning Equity Into a Reality. Mohottige D, Diamantidis CJ, Norris KC, Boulware LE.Am J Kidney Dis. 2021 Jun;77(6):951-962. doi: 10.1053/j.ajkd.2021.01.010. Epub 2021 Feb 24.

Have a great week!
Aimee

Feeling down? Need to talk to someone? Opportunities for Wellness
All trainees at Duke have FREE access to Personal Assistance Services (PAS), which is the faculty/employee assistance program of Duke University. The staff of licensed professionals offer confidential assessment, short-term counseling, and referrals to help resolve a range of personal, work, and family problems. PAS services are available free of charge to Duke faculty and staff, and their immediate family members. An appointment to meet with a PAS counselor may be arranged by calling the PAS office at 919-416-1PAS (919-416-1727), Monday through Friday between 8:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M. For assistance after hours, residents and fellows can call the Blood and Body Fluid Hotline (115 inside DUH, 919-684-1115 outside) for referral to behavioral health resources. Another resource is Duke Outpatient Psychiatry Referrals at (919) 684-0100 or 1-888-ASK-DUKE. https://www.hr.duke.edu/pas/
