From the Director

Congratulations SARS! We had a great time celebrating your 3 years at the SAR Dinner Friday night, with big thanks to Lynsey, Tia, Ernest, and Kerri for making it happen! We enjoyed seeing Madi Smith, Erin Payne and Lish Clark there too!  Many thanks to our awesome and hilarious emcees Megan Gillum and David Beavers.  Excellent job!

This week’s Grand Rounds is Dinushika Mohottige! Be there for what I am certain will be an amazing talk.

Congratulations to Sonali Bracken on the birth of Zavian Lee Bracken! Mom and Dad are super happy and the whole family is doing well! Welcome to the Duke Family!

Those applying to fellowship – ERAS opened this past week! Don’t forget to look at the entire checklist and get your LOR forms sent, request your transcripts and USMLE’s asap! Please let me know if you have questions.

Kudos

Kudos this week go to Juan Magana and Maggie Moses for outstanding SAR talks, and to Nate Moulton with guest star Myles Wolf for a fantastic chair’s conference. Other kudos to Bryan Golubski and Josh Lee the elder from Kristen Dicks for being an awesome and skilled team at DRH, to Hysem Eldik from Sam Lindner for going above and beyond to help a patient and to Nicole Pristera and Taylor Triana from Adam Banks for going out of their way to help a colleague. And huge kudos to Marc Samsky for his outstanding grand rounds – what a great job integrating some of the primary reasons we are here at Duke – patient care, advancing knowledge and building mentoring relationships.

We are so excited to congratulate our awardees presented by Marc at Grand Rounds:  Greenfield Research Mentoring Award: Rob Mentz; G. Ralph Corey VA Teaching Award: Marie Carlson; Eugene Stead Teaching Awards: Nilesh Patel and Talal Dahhan;  LeCoq Best SAR Talk: Sarah Nouri and Emily Kinsey; Best Chair’s Conference: Kent Feng; Amit Bhaskar Compassion in Medicine Award: Megan Dupuis.

PubMed from the Program

This week’s pubmed from the program goes to Caroline Sloan for her recent presentation at SGIM: "Impact of Medicare Dialysis Bundled Payment Reform on Peritoneal Dialysis Programs in US Dialysis Facilities."

Have a great week!

There will be a lot of changes at Pickett starting July 1, 2018. Dr. Peyser has been promoted to Duke Primary Care Director of Education. He will continue to see patients and precept residents at Pickett but will no longer have the responsibilities of Medical Director. Dr. Rubin has taken on this role and Dr. Jeff Clough will take over as residency director. We thank Dr. Meredith who had precepted Tuesday afternoons and who will continue working with his patients at the new South Durham office. We are in the process in transition and are looking forward to the graduating SARs, the incoming interns and the coming of the new academic year.
